CORKS Out in Stockton Heath has been named the Warrington Business Awards Retailer of the Year for the third year running.
Owner Ruth Yates collected the award on Friday night and was also highly commended in the Business Person of the Year category.
And new manager James Nixon believes it is her passion combined with her attention to detail that has proved to be the independent wine specialist’s winning formula.
He said: “We are over the moon. While I’d like to say I was surprised to hear we had won, we do go above and beyond in terms of the service we provide and not many people do that.
“Not being a chain helps us provide a specialist service.
“Our hands are not tied as to what we have to sell – we are totally open minded.
“If we feel the vintage is poor or the price has gone up we will just drop the product.”
The former chef says he has quickly learned how to ally his knowledge of food with Mrs Yate’s expertise.
He said: “A customer will come in and we will ask them three questions, what type of wine do they want, what country of origin and what price.
“We’ll then get information about how they are going to drink it, is it going to be with food or is it for a party, and then we pinpoint what the
wine is for and cater to that.
“Ruth has been over to other wineries all over the world and she has got their passion. She wanted to instill that here.”
